Amber Rudd Visits Queensway Gateway Site

Amber Rudd, Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye, and Andrew Jones MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, were welcomed to the Queensway Gateway construction site by East Sussex County Council Leader, Cllr Keith Glazier.

The Queensway Gateway project will provide a direct link between the A21 and Queensway.

Lydney B Access Road update

The first stages of the widening to Highfield Road is well underway with 4 way traffic signals in operation from Monday 19th September to allow us to safely construct the new central islands.

Blackwell launch new safety campaign

Blackwell have started a new safety campaign urging drivers to slow down in roadworks on the Highfield Road in Lydney, with the ‘Please kill your speed, not my Daddy’ campaign featuring signage showing Blackwell staff with members of their family. 

Barton Park Project Update July 2016

Phase one works are nearing completion, with the construction of the first play area and associated trim trial gym equipment being installed.  A40 Traffic Management Update: Single lane closure in operation for safety audit.

Blackwell start work on Lydney B Access Road Phase 1

The project comprises of the construction of a new road to give access to a future residential development, including a new junction and associated traffic management system, associated drainage and attenuation pond.

Barton Park in Oxford Project Update June 2016

The site team have successfully handed over the first two build plots on time to the follow on developer Hills. S38 spine road is progressing well with block paving and hard landscaping well underway. Works on the A40 are nearing completion with final landscape planting and signage remaining. There is a final round of nightshifts required to allow full access to the A40 to complete works during off peak traffic flows.

Bayards Hill Primary School visits Barton Park

What could be better than visiting a real construction site when you’re a kid, well a group of KS2 students from Bayards Hill Primary School got to do just that.

Paul Massey, General Foreman on the site gave a brief presentation of the scheme where the students asked lots of interesting questions, there was a safety briefing followed by a tour of the project. 

Blackwell win Bronze CCS Award

Congratulations to Justin Downer and to Matt Reed and his team. Blackwell has won a Bronze Considerate Constructors Scheme 2016 National Site Award for the Aldhurst Farm Habitat Creation Scheme.

This site has shown the highest levels of consideration towards the public, its workforce and the environment through adhering to the Scheme’s five-point Code of Considerate Practice.

 

Barton Park Project Update March 2016

The project has received better weather in recent weeks which has enabled production to increase. The A40 junction works are now focused on the central reservation and the new spine road inside the development is taking shape. The next period will focus on completing underground activities which will then free up the finishing works including kerbing, paving, landscaping and planting.

Barton Park Update January 2016

Progress has been challenging due to the heavy rainfall received during the last period.  Both the A40 junction and the main spine road are starting to take shape, engineered fill has been compacted and we will shortly start kerbing.  33kv Overhead Power lines spanning the west area of the project were diverted early January.

Bridge demolition successfully completed on Lilbourne Wind Farm

Blackwell begins the enabling works for a new 30 turbine wind farm

The 28th of April marked the beginning of Blackwell's enabling works contract to facilitate the construction of the 30 turbine Windy Standard II Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway.

Work begins on Middlehaven Urban Park

On the 28th of April, Blackwell began work on a new landscaping and remediation project to build a high-quality urban park and reclaim a former gasworks on adjacent sites within the Middlehaven area of Middlesbrough.

North Solihull Strategic Cycle Network update

This project to provide improved cycle network connectivity has now been completed with over 15.5 km of new cycle routes constructed. The project aims to link residential communities with employment areas and transport interchanges with high quality, cycle friendly routes. The overall project includes eco-friendly lighting, controlled crossing points, priority crossings of side roads for cyclists, improved mapping showing strategic cycle routes and onward travel information, improved cycling signage and secure cycle parking facilities. The Blackwell team successfully completed the scheme which received very positive feedback from the client, Solihull MBC. 

Blackwell awarded road scheme in Gloucester

Blackwell have been awarded our first contract for developer, Robert Hitchins Ltd. at Longford Lane, Longford, Gloucester.  The project is enabling future residential development and includes construction of a new spur road off Longford Lane with feature roundabout, pedestrian signals, lighting and utility installation.

Work to start on the Weston Super Mare Strategic Flood Storage Scheme

Blackwell was recently awarded the Weston Super Mare Strategic Flood Storage Scheme The storage areas are shallow excavations, between 1 and 1.5 meters deep resulting in the removal of some 500,000m3 of soil.  The installation of water control structures including head walls, flap valves, spillways and culverts/pipes will be required on the adjacent rhynes plus 3000 meters of maintenance access tracks.  To facilitate recreational access the construction of approx 3000m of surfaced footpaths and installation of 3 bridges with associated landscaping, tree planting and seeding of the sites once excavation is complete. 

Blackwell exceeds targets on Dounreay Firing Range

Blackwell's work to support the construction of the Dounreay Firing Range training facility was successfully completed on the 21st of February, one month ahead of programme.
